How to Use Retinol

Let's talk about how to use retinol the right way, getting the best out of our new weapon to treat common skin problems. First things first, why are we all here? If I had to guess, we're worried about the appearance of our current skin or the potential issues we may face. Now let's jump into it.

Steps to use Retinol

You can use retinol as part of your daily skin regimen. Although most people like to use it at night before bed, it is also acceptable to use it in the morning to start your day.

I'd recommend using a gentle face wash to not irritate your skin, but any cleanser will do:

  1. First, start by washing your face so we can start with a fresh canvas and pat dry.

  2. Next, get out your favorite retinol cream and massage a thin layer to your cheeks, forehead, chin, around outer eyes and nose. Work the cream gently in a circular motion inside to outside, and evenly cover all spots you desire.

  3. Then, you're going to want to let it soak into the skin for a minute or two. Next grab a moisturizer. PLEASE don't forget this step as it is very important. Retinol can dry out the skin when it absorbs.

  4. Lather up a thin coat of moisturizer everywhere you massaged the retinol and you're done!

Skincare Tips

Now, if you do use retinol for your morning routine it's recommended that you use at least SPF 15 or higher sunscreen over your moisturizer. The sun can be damaging when you're using these strong chemicals on your skin. Also, don't forget to test out how your skin adapts to using retinol. It can be harsh on the skin (flakiness, dryness) at first. So use it a few times a week until your skin can handle it. Lastly, don't forget to moisturize.
